Monday of the Second Week of Advent

The messianic times

The desert and the parched land will exult; the steppe will rejoice and bloom. They will bloom with abundant flowers, and rejoice with joyful song …. They will see the glory of the Lord, the splendor of our God. Strengthen the hands that are feeble, make firm the knees that are weak, Say to those whose hearts are frightened: Be strong, fear not! Here is your God, he comes with vindication; With divine recompense he comes to save you. Then will the eyes of the blind be opened, the ears of the deaf be cleared; Then will the lame leap like a stag, then the tongue of the dumb will sing. Streams will burst forth in the desert, and rivers in the steppe. The burning sands will become pools, and the thirsty ground, springs of water; The abode where jackals lurk will be a marsh for the reed and papyrus. A highway will be there, called the holy way … No lion will be there, nor beast of prey go up to be met upon it …. and on it the redeemed will walk. Those whom the Lord has ransomed will return and enter Zion singing. Is 35,1-10

This page of the prophet Isaiah is an announcement, as it was the habit on the ancient times when the messenger of the king was used to arrive at a gallop by the mid of the square, to stop the horse, to unfold the parchment paper and to proclaim to the subject people the message of the king. Today the prophet Isaiah announces that the Lord has won the freedom war of his people, for which a future of splendour, glory and peace is going to be opened: “Be strong, fear not! Here is your God …he comes with vindication”. It is a proclamation of victory over Satan, the ancient snake which was keeping as slaves the mankind and the creation: “The desert and the parched land will exult; the steppe will rejoice and bloom …. Strengthen the hands that are feeble, make firm the knees that are weak…Then will the eyes of the blind be opened, the ears of the deaf be cleared; Then will the lame leap like a stag, then the tongue of the dumb will sing”.  After the Lord has won the death and triumphed in the resurrection, did this freedom of the mankind and of the creation already take place or do we have still to wait for its occurrence? From an overall glance on the world and on the history, we realize that the famines and the diseases, the brutalities and the abuses of power, the pain and the death still exist and consequently we should infer that this prophecy did not yet materialize. Indeed, it will fully occur by the eschatological times, but it is already effective since two thousand years and it is this way also now, due to the good will people which spend their life for the probity and the salvation of the world. Unfortunately this is not a final victory, even if the Lord has already won. The reality is that the mankind is not yet fully aware about, as the consequence a lot of people continue to fight being in the Satan side, as that maniple of japanese soldiers who, being not informed that the second world war was over, continued to combat in a small island of the Pacific sea. On the contrary, for the people who are aware of, the Isaiah prophecy is taking place already now by a mysterious, but real way.
